Find out the best place to go when you are sick or injured to make sure you receive treatment quickly.
Step 1 — Find a nearby doctor, clinic or hospital in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield network. While you are not required to go inside the network, it makes the process easier and will oftentimes reduce your out-of-pocket costs.
Once you are enrolled in your school’s insurance plan, you will receive a welcome email from GeoBlue with instructions on how to set up your online account. You can register right online through the GeoBlue website, or you download the GeoBlue App. Once you’ve registered, you’ll have access to your ID card and will be able to access the search tool to find doctors and hospitals in your area.
Many schools have a health center on campus where you can get medical treatment quickly and easily.
DoctorIf you feel sick or you are injured, make an appointment with the doctor to have your condition looked at and treated.
Urgent Care Centers/Walk-In ClinicsIf you are sick or injured, this is a good place to get immediate medical attention without an appointment; many have longer hours.
Emergency Room/Hospital If you have a life-threatening illness or injury, call 911 or go directly to the ER. Note: If you go to the emergency room for an illness and you are not admitted, you may be subject to additional costs.Step 2 — Present your insurance ID Card.
It is important to ALWAYS present your ID card to your doctor, clinic, hospital and pharmacy when you arrive. If you have downloaded the GeoBlue App, you can also send a digital copy.
If you go to a doctor outside the network or don’t have your ID card with you, you may need to pay for the services up front and submit a claim for reimbursement. If you pay out of pocket and need to be reimbursed, please complete the claim form. and submit this with your bills and receipts. You can do this through your online account or through the GeoBlue App for faster processing.
Present your insurance card at the pharmacy to receive a discount on your prescription. You will then need to pay for prescription medication upfront at the pharmacy, and then submit a claim form along with the prescription and receipt to be reimbursed. The insurance company will need to see the name of the prescription and the dosage in order to process the reimbursement. This can all be submitted after you have registered online or using the GeoBlue App. Need help with a prescription? Call the pharmacy help-line at: 800-788-2910.
